English midfielder Andros Townsend has beaten Ghana's Jordan Ayew to the best goal scored by a Crystal Palace player in the last decade.

Townsend's phenomenal volley at the Etihad against Manchester City, a goal that saw the Eagles win for the first time in 28-years at City was voted by fans of the club as the best and most meaningful goal of the decade.

Ayew's brilliant solitary effort against West Ham this season came third, with Darren Ambrose's effort at Old Trafford against Manchester United as the second best goal of the decade.

The Ghana striker has been in superb form for the Eagles since joining the club last summer on a permanent deal, scoring eight premier league as Roy Hudson's men lie 11th on the table.

The former Aston Villa and Swansea forward s the outright favourite for the club's player of the season.

The English Premier League is expected to return on June 17, and Crystal Palace will fancy their chances of making it to Europe with the gap between them and Sheffield United just four.
