Angel Gomes laughs off rumours he was sent home from Man United training

Angel Gomes has dismissed the suggestion he was left out of the Manchester United squad against Tranmere for disciplinary reasons.

Gomes travelled with the United squad to Prenton Park, but was not part of the matchday squad that safely navigated their way through the FA Cup fourth round tie with a comfortable 6-0 win.

The midfielder is out of contract at the end of the season, and has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford in search of regular first team football. Tahith Chong is in the same position, but he played the second half vs Tranmere, winning a penalty that was converted by Mason Greenwood.

After Gomes was omitted from the squad to face Tranmere, bizarre rumours began to circulate on social media that the reason was because he had been late for training.

United immediately rubbished those suggestions, describing them as 'absolutely not true'.

After the game, Gomes took to Twitter to offer his own opinion on the rumour, quoting a tweet with two laughing emojis.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hinted before the clash that he would need to utilise his full squad in the next two weeks before the inaugural winter break, offering Gomes some hope of some game time.

"Some of the lads needs some minutes," Solskjaer explained to MUTV, explaining his team selection. "Some have the energy that we want them to give us today and some needed some rest, so that's the decision we made. We've got two games coming up next week so I think it's about using the squad."
