Angel Gomes names his three Manchester United idols

Manchester United youngster Angel Gomes has named Cristiano Ronaldo, Nani and Carlos Tevez as his three main idols during his youth career.

Gomes started training with the Reds at the age of six and represented the U-17 side aged just 13 during a tournament in Slovakia back in 2013. The youngster quickly rose up the ranks before signing as an academy scholar in 2016.

The 19-year-old made his first team debut a year later and remains one of the most promising young players at the club despite the uncertainty over his long-term future at Old Trafford. His contract is set to expire at the end of the season and negotiations over a new deal are currently at a standstill.

Gomes opened up on his idols during an interview with the official United website and named Ronaldo, Nani and Tevez as the three former Reds who inspired him.

"When I was growing up at United, Nani had a big influence on me and when I was around eight years old, when I used to go and watch, it was that time when we had a great season and [we had Cristiano] Ronaldo and [Carlos] Tevez," he said.

"All those players inspired me when I was growing up."

The playmaker also revealed that Barcelona legend Andreas Iniesta is the player he tries to model his own game on.

Gomes added: "In terms of who I model parts of my game on, I'd say [Andres] Iniesta. He was always one of my idols.

"[He was] a big player I watched while growing up. [He played] in similar positions as me and I've always tried modelling my game on Iniesta."
