Anthony Annan laments Cape-Coast stadium closure

Ghana midfielder Anthony Annan is saddened by the temporary closure of the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast following attacks on a referee.

The Ghana FA invoked its powers to ban the ground after deeming it unsafe to host official games.

This was after irate fans charged and beat up referee Patrick Kyeremanteng and other officials plus some media personnel after a disallowed late equalizer in Ebusua Dwarfs' Premier League loss to Aduana Stars on March 11.

The impact of the stadium’s closure is deeply felt by teams using the venue as their home grounds with Dwarfs the worst affected team.

They have been made to play the remainder of the home games away from their comfort zone where it had until the unfortunate incident been impossible for any team to come away with a win.

And Annan who took a brief break from club duties to visit friends and family in Cape Coast urged suppporters to put up good behaviour to ensure the football they love so much is not taken away from them by the authorities.

"People in Cape Coast really love their football and really love their teams here,” he told Cape Coast-based Live FM.

"I was looking forward to watching one of the local games here during my brief time here only to be disappointed.

"I'd therefore appeal to the supporters to desist from such acts because it really hurts the players and the fans because they don’t get the chance to play at home where they’ll enjoy a lot of support."
