Anthony Annan rallies support for Black Stars coach CK Akonnor

Ghanaian midfielder Anthony Annan is rallying support for Black Stars coach Charles Akonnor because he believes without the necessary support the tactician will not be successful.

Akonnor was appointed early this year following the departure of Kwasi Appiah, who had been in charge for two and a half years.

The 46-year-old's work has been delayed by the coronavirus pandemic as he still awaits his first match. He has been tasked to end the country's trophy drought by winning the Africa Cup of Nations which was initially scheduled to take place next year but has been postponed to 2022.

Annan, who has declared his readiness to return to the team, believes Akonnor wouldn't have earned the job if he wasn't qualified.

“I don’t really know much about coach CK but I heard he coached some big clubs in Ghana.

“Moreover when I heard about his appointment, I knew Ghanaians saw some qualities in him.

“The authorities cannot appoint just anybody to handle the Black Stars so I think he deserves the post.

“We have to give him all the support he deserves to succeed with the Black Stars as he was a former player and knows the national team.

“Just like we supported Kwesi Appiah when he was appointed, we must do our best to support C K Akonnor as well,” Annan told Akoma FM.

Akonnor rose to the top job after impressing in the local scene with Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak, Dreams FC and Ashanti Gold.
