Antony’s transfer value has DOUBLED since Man Utd move

Published on: 28 September 2022

Manchester United made Antony the most expensive player of the 2022 summer transfer window when they signed him from Ajax for an up-front fee of €95 million.

In addition to this initial fee, the Red Devils have included potential bonus payments of €5m for the winger, taking the potential value of the deal up to €100m.

Antony is the third such player whose summer move could come to nine figures, but that guaranteed outlay on the 22-year-old is greater than either Real Madrid gave to Monaco over Aurelien Tchouameni (€80m) or Liverpool provided to Benfica for Darwin Nunez (€75m).

Man Utd’s decision to spend so big on Antony, though, is already appearing to be a shrewd move compared to their competitors.

The Red Devils have seen the transfer value of the 24-year-old skyrocket since arriving at Old Trafford. When Man Utd signed him, his FootballTransfers estimated value was just €35.6m. It has since doubled to €72m, making him the 18th most valuable player in the world.

This has come off the back of a very promising start to life in England, where he notably scored on his Premier League debut against Arsenal.

Antony the signing of the summer?

The strength of Antony’s initial efforts have been underlined by the relative flatlining of the transfer valuations of those other summer transfers that could ultimately be worth €100m over time.

Tchouameni’s value has taken a small jump from €29m to €41m, while Nunez has gone from a valuation of little over €25m to €36.

Antony is not alone at Manchester United in taking a sizeable jump in his valuation, though. Lisandro Martinez’s value has almost doubled since he moved to Old Trafford from the Eredivisie side, while Tyrell Malacia has similarly enjoyed a bump in valuation that will likely grow as he establishes himself as the first-choice left-back.

Nevertheless, Antony is the standout example that Man Utd’s transfer business this summer was strong.
