Akwasi Appiah is looking to make a strong case for indigenous coaches by excelling as coach of the Black Stars.

The 51-year-old became the first local in ten years to be handed the top job on a permanent basis - during which period the team has come under the tutelage of Serbians, Germans, a Portuguese and a French coach.

And the ex Asante Kotoko captain say he needs to do well to vindicate his crusade for local coaches.

“The key part is that I have been with the team for some time now and all the players have phoned to pledge the support for me,” he said.

“I need to defend the local coaches as well and the most important thing is that they have all thrown their weight behind me.”

Appiah until his appointment had served as an assistant an assistant coach of the Black Stars since 2008.
