Appiah to name Ghana squad to face Sudan

Published on: 15 September 2010

Ghana assistant coach Akwasi Appiah is expected to be asked by the Ghana Football Association this week to draw up the list of players to play against Sudan next month.

That is because a new permanent coach is not expected to take full charge of the squad before the game.

Even if a coach is appointed to replace Milvoan Rajevac ahead of the 10 October game he will need some time to be able to study the team at first hand.

Appiah, who worked as an assistant while Rajevac was in charge, will name the squad of 22 players as the game is just about three weeks away.

According to Fifa laws, players must be invited for international matches at most 14 days before the game.

The local manager who excelled when he Rajevac was suspended at the African Nations Championship in the Ivory Coast early last year will name somewhat of the same squad that defeated Swaziland last month.

The former Black Stars captain is highly respected by all the players of the national team because of how he has conducted himself over the past two years.

It is not known whether Inter Milan maverick Sulley Muntari will be handed an invitation for the game in Accra.

The Black Stars must beat Sudan in Accra to be them on course for the 2012 African Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
