Arnautovic heads to China

Published on: 09 July 2019

Austria international Marko Arnautovic has finally got his wish and left West Ham United to join Chinese Super League champions Shanghai SIPG.

The 30-year-old spent two seasons with the Hammers following his arrival from Stoke City for £20million and scored 22 goals in 65 appearances for the club.

Arnautovic had been keen to move to China in January before having a change of heart and signing a contract extension with the club.

He said at the time: "I want to say to the fans that I'm happy to stay. I'm glad to play again, show myself and score goals, to make assists, but also to say that the major point is Marko Arnautovic never refused [to play or train]. I would never refuse."

It is believed Arnautovic has moved to Shanghai SIPG for £22.4million.

Manuel Pellegrini's side are set to travel to China later this month to play matches in Nanjing and Shanghai in the pre-season Premier League Asia Trophy tournament.

Meanwhile, Robert Snodgrass, who penned a contract extension with the club last week, can't wait for the new Premier League campaign to start.

The Scotland international said: "I've really enjoyed working with the manager. I think you go through a stage where you're constantly asking questions because you're learning every day, and when it's like that you need to bring results with it.

"Football is a results-based business and when it's going well like it has been, everybody buys into what we're trying to do here.

"For me, it's about trying to build on last season now. I want to try and get more goals and more assists and be the best team-mate I can be. I will take it one per cent at a time and do the best I possibly can."

West Ham are 5/4 to finish in the top half of the Premier League table this season and 10/1 to beat Manchester City on 10th August.
