Arsenal defender set to join Roma

Published on: 07 January 2016

Roma are close to the signing of Arsenal’s Mathieu Debuchy, with the defender said to have turned down the approaches of several other clubs in favour of a move to Italy.

It was previously believed that the Arsenal man favoured a move to French side Lyon in a bid to capture the attention of France national coach Didier Deschamps in time for the 2016 European Championship, though it now seems that he has had a change of heart.

According to The Daily Mirror, Debuchy has requested to be sold this January and is currently undergoing talks with Roma.

The Giallorossi have been on the trail of the right-back over the past few months as they search for an adequate solution to their defensive problems and it now seems that they may have won the race to his signature.

However, negotiations will need to be speedy if the capital club hope to stave off any competition, as Lyon and even Aston Villa remain active in their attempts to tempt Debuchy away from the peninsula.
