Arsenal launch audacious bid to sign Chelsea's Michael Essien

English side Arsenal have slapped in an audacious offer to sign Michael Essien on loan from arch rivals Chelsea on Friday.

Arsenal are seeking to boost their defensive midfield ranks following the departure of Alex Song to Barcelona few days ago.

Coach Arsene Wenger wants to solve that problem at the heart of his midfield before Friday's transfer deadline.

With the Ghana international Essien down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, Arsenal are confident that Chelsea would consider the brave offer season-long loan offer.

The Frenchman said that he might still spend today if a “top, top player” became available.

Transfer experts say the approach is likely to be rebuffed as Chelsea would be unwilling to send a player to one of their direct rivals.

Despite these fears, Chelsea did allow Yossi Benayoun move to the Emirates Stadium last season.

The transfer window closes at midnight and the Gunners are hoping to complete a swift move for the Ghanaian.
