Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta opens up on Partey's latest injury

Published on: 08 November 2021

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is unsure the extent of Thomas Partey's injury but hopes it is not a long term setback.

The Spanish trainer lost the Ghanaian midfielder to a muscle injury before the start of the game against Watford on Sunday, November 7, 2021.

This means the Black Stars deputy captain could miss the Ethiopia and South Africa World Cup qualifiers.

"Let’s see what happens with Thomas. He wasn’t available to play today. He’s got a muscle injury, and we don’t know how it’s going to evolve, so let’s take it day by day," said Arteta after the game.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles replaced the Ghana international in the line up as Emile Rowe Smith netted the winner against Watford.

Partey's absence will be a huge blow for Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac following his inspiring performance in the back-to-back wins against Zimbabwe.

Ghana travels to South Africa to play Ethiopia on November 11, 2021 before a home game against the Bafana Bafana three days later.
