Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey could be available for South Africa clash

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been ruled out of Ghana's 2022 World Cup qualifying match against Ethiopia because of a groin injury.

However, he could be available for selection when Black Stars face South Africa on Sunday.

The team departed for Johannesburg on Monday for the Ethiopia game with 24 players, excluding Partey who is yet to report to camp.

The deputy captain has a groin injury and is still in London being monitored by Arsenal.

The Ghana Football Association has written to Arsenal, demanding the release of Black Stars deputy captain for further medical assessment.

Ghanasoccernet.com understands that Partey is willing to honour the invitation. He could play but there is a high risk of him aggravating the injury.

Partey suffered the injury in training and missed Arsenal's Premier League match against Watford on Sunday.

Patey, who missed the first two games of the qualifiers due to injury, returned with two goals in the double-header against Zimbabwe last month.

The back-to-back wins revived Ghana’s hopes of qualifying for the final round.

They must win against Ethiopia and South Africa to top the group and qualify for the playoffs.
