Arsenal youngster has 'big future' as Gunners get taste of what is to come

Arsenal look to have another gem on their hands in the form of youngster Charlie Patino.

The club's famed Hale End academy has produced a host of first-team stars in recent years, including England ace Bukayo Saka and midfield dynamo Emile Smith Rowe. And it might not be long before Patino, 19, joins them on a regular basis in the first-team.

The teenager burst onto the scene last season when he made his debut as a late substitute in the Carabao Cup against Sunderland. Patino needed only ten minutes to make his mark, coming off the bench to score the final goal in a comfortable 5-1 rout.

He only made one more appearance for the senior side before the season's end - a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup - and is now turning heads on loan at Blackpool in the Championship as he gains valuable first-team experience.

How good do you think Patino could be? Let us know in the comments section below.

The 6ft midfielder has made 12 appearances for the Tangerines and was the star of the show during Saturday's derby clash against Preston North End. Patino provided a valuable assist and scored Blackpool's third goal as his side secured a 4-2 win over their bitter rivals.

Some people questioned whether Patino's slight frame and dainty footwork could count against him in the Championship. But he's proving the old adage that if you're good enough, you're old enough, as Blackpool scrap it out towards the bottom of the table.

Blackpool boss Michael Appleton was full of praise for the Arsenal youngster after he picked up the man-of-the-match award at Bloomfield Road on Saturday.

Speaking to talkSPORT2, Appleton said: "He's a lad who, for his age, is very, very mature. I think he's capable of playing numerous positions in that midfield area.

"We've used him as a six, an eight, even as a number 10 at times. He deals with it, he copes with it, he's got an understanding of the game beyond his years. He can deal with the ball and move it, he's got a big future ahead of him.

"I think people were a little bit worried or concerned whether he could cope at this level at such a young age but I think he's proved he's more than capable of doing it."
