Arsenal's Frimpong joins great trek to Harare

Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has joined the growing list of international stars who will take part in Benjani Mwaruwari’s testimonial in Harare on May 26.

Ghana-born Frimpong was injured in February while out on loan at Wolves and missed the last three months of the English Premier League season.

But the midfielder has passed himself fit to play in the match between international stars and a Zimbabwe select side at the National Sports Stadium to mark the former Manchester City striker’s retirement from international football and launch his Benjani Mwaruwari Foundation.

The match will be preceded by a star-studded dinner on May 25.

Frimpong told his half-a-million followers on Twitter: “I’m going to be supporting Benjani Mwaruwari on the 25th and 26th May. Zimbabwe here I come.”

Frimpong also posted a link to a YouTube video featuring top stars including Premier League title winner Yaya Toure, Tottenham’s Emmanuel Adebayor and West Brom’s Peter Odemwingie – all confirming their participation.

Other stars set to arrive in Harare are the Chelsea pair of Didier Drogba and Michael Essien, Arsenal’s Alex Song, Everton’s Steven Pienaar, AC Milan’s Sulley Muntari, Queens Park Rangers’ Daniel Shittu, Arsenal legend Nwankwo Kanu, Leicester City’s John Pantsil and Doncaster Rovers’ Pascal Chimbonda.
