Wenger hopeful of VAR protection

Former Arsenal headmaster Arsène Wenger has recently reflected on the importance of VAR when it comes to protecting footballers from injuries.

The Alsatian icon who spent 22-seasons in north London believes that the system has afforded attacking players in the modern game additional respect, and by extension, protection when it comes to the more physical aspects of the game.

When speaking with The Telegraph (cited by the Independent), Wenger briefly reflected on the physical situation of the game and how it is viewed in the media;

Former Arsenal players could have benefitted from VAR

Arsenal under Arsène took the pitch with caution on countless occasions during the good times under Wenger. “Wengerball” was thriving, and the technical craft on display at both Highbury and the Emirates was a sight to see, but the downside always came by way of each opponent turning to aggression as a way to counter their inability to keep pace in the refined arts of football.

As such, the legendary Gunners headmaster feels responsible for the injury issues seen over the years by the likes of Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey;

Though neither Wilshere nor Ramsey had the high-level longevity at the club that both were undoubtedly capable of, Ramsey eventually found his way to Juventus while sustaining an influence presence in the Wales camp over the years. As for Wilshere, recent rumors that the former Hale End graduate was set to return to the club in a training-only arrangement is further proof that the 29-year-old barely scratched the surface in a career that was all but guaranteed to result in superstardom if not for injuries.
