Arteta insists Aubameyang is happy at Arsenal despite Barcelona link

Mikel Arteta insists Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is happy at Arsenal despite reports linking his club captain with a January transfer move to Barcelona.

With Luis Suarez injured for the next four months, Barcelona are on the lookout for a new striker - and Aubameyang is a reported target for the Spanish champions this month.

Aubameyang is yet to sign a contract extension with his current Arsenal deal expiring in summer 2020, and reports in the Spanish media have suggested that the striker is open to joining Barcelona this month.

However, Arteta is confident that Aubameyang will remain in north London - and pointed out the programme notes of the forward earlier this month which stated his happiness at the club.

Speaking on Friday, Arteta said: "A week ago after a game at home we were discussing that he said he was so happy, that he didn't agree with the things being written in the media and has his future here.

"I'm so happy with that. That's where I stand at the moment."

The programme notes in question read: "I would also like to react to some of the rumours that are going around about me in the media.

"People like making up stories and they should focus on what's happening on the pitch. They talk too much and it does my head in!

"I am the Arsenal captain. I love this club. I am committed to it and desperate to bring it back to the top, where it belongs."
