Gyan dropped from Ghana starting line-up - Messi, Nuhu, Atsu to start

Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has dropped leading striker Asamoah Gyan from his starting line-up to face China in a friendly on Wednesday to enable him assess the younger players on the periphery of the squad.

Debutants Abdul Razak Nuhu and Frank 'Messi' Acheampong have been named in the Black Stars  starting line-up to face the Asians in Xi'an.

Coach Appiah will blend experience and youth in his starting line-up against the Asians as he seeks to closely observe some of the players he has invited for the first time.

But the coach will not gamble with the Heart of his defence as captain John Mensah and Isaac Vorsah will be at the centre while Adam Kwarasey is maintained as the country's safest shot-stopper.

Harrison Afful goes to his favourite right-back position in the absence of Samuel Inkoom and Daniel Opare, while Nuhu who has been in outstanding form for Stromgodset in the Norwegian top-flight will be observed to sort out the problematic left-back position in the squad.

Coach Appiah will not also gamble with the heart of his midfield as Anthony Annan and Derek Boateng as expected to stop of the attack of the speedy Chinese.

Silky Christian Atsu will get his first Ghana start as he is expected along with Kwadwo Asamoah and impressive Thailand-based Acheampong to create opportunities for lone striker Emmanuel Clottey.

The CAF Champions League leading scorer Clottey, who has been part of the squad for the some time now but rarely got the opportunity to impress, will start.

This means tested striker Asamoah Gyan, who has returned to the squad after a six-month absence has been left on the bench.

From the look of things coach Appiah is using the opportunity of the friendly to assess the younger players on the periphery of the squad ahead of next month's Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Malawi.
