Forget Messi, Ronaldo and Rooney – Ghana’s striker Asamoah Gyan is the best scorer internationally!

While Lionel Messi, Ronaldo and Rooney have scored most in European Club football, neither can account for a higher percentage of their national team’s goals than Asamoah Gyan.

Undoubtedly among all the forwards, Asamoah Gyan is the most valuable player in terms of scoring ratio for his national team.

According to present statistics, is not Lionel Messi. Neither is it Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo or Wayne Rooney. In fact it is unquestionably Asamoah Gyan.

Lionel Messi has 49 goals in 104 games; Ronaldo - 55 goals in 122 games; Rooney - 50 goals in 107 games; and Gyan has 48 goals in fewer games of 90.

Now, let's see how that translates into goals per game…Lionel Messi - 0.47; Ronaldo – 0.45; Rooney – 0.47; whilst Asamoah Gyan stands at 0.53.

Not only does Asamoah Gyan hold a better goal – scoring record per game - he is officially a better international goal scorer than his peers at the World Cup stage. Asamoah Gyan has six goals, Messi has five goals, Ronaldo has three and Rooney last with just one World Cup goal.

Indeed, Asamoah Gyan’s goal scoring flamboyance record, of which most comes with a beauty like an eagle in its majestic flight, is a succinct summary of his legendary status in African and world football!
