Ghana's World Cup legend Asamoah Gyan has completely destroyed the country's domestic transfer record by signing a deal with Legon Cities worth more than US$1million, Ghanasoccernet.com can reveal.
The 34-year-old sealed the deal on Friday night after meeting the club president Mr Richard Attipoe to agree the terms of the contract with the former Ghana captain.
Gyan will earn more than ONE MILLION US DOLLARS but some of the amount won't be paid in cash as he will stand to benefit from other things to be offered by the club.
"The deal was sealed yesterday as I excused Gyan and his elder brother Baffour to conclude the deal with the club officials. I can confirm it is more than one million dollars," Anim Addo, the manager of the striker said on Saturday night.
Gyan, who has been without a club since January, reached the deal agreed to join the Legon-based club after Asante Kotoko failed to meet his demands.
The World Cup scoring legend has agreed a four-year deal which will see him earn more $1 million which is a record in the local transfer.
As part of the deal, Gyan asked the Ghana Premier League side to sign teenage sensation Mathew Cudjoe and they have also sealed the deal for the talented youngster.
Cudjoe played on loan last season at Kotoko but the Porcupine Warriors could not sign him on a permanent deal.
The 34-year-old Gyan is returning to the local league, 17 years after leaving Liberty Professionals.
He has gone on to play in Premier League with Sunderland and dominated United Arab Emirates league. The Al Ain striker won the league's golden boot three times.
Gyan has scored 51 goals for the Black Stars since his debut in 2003.
