Asante Kotoko chief Nana Yaw Amponsah claims defeat to Medeama is most painful under his watch

Asante Kotoko SC CEO Nana Yaw Amponsah has said that the defeat to Medeama SC last weekend is the most painful since he joined the club in August 2020.

Medeama came from behind to beat the Porcupine Warriors 2-1 at the Len Clay Stadium on Saturday in round 21 of the Ghana Premier League.

The victory also saw the Mauve and Yellows to leapfrog Asante Kotoko to occupy the top spot on the league standings.

Amponsah admits the loss is a very painful one to accept since he never anticipated that results could happen.

"The most painful defeat since I joined Kotoko was the Saturday’s game (defeat to Medeama). Because it was a game we never expected to lose," he told Opemsuo FM in Kumasi.

"We started very well and got the early goal and was managing the game until that goal. From where I was sitting I felt it was offside. I have seen images proved to be offside.

"We were still managing the game amidst difficulties then a deflected goal that can beat the best goalkeeper in the world. But I thought the second half we were cool.

"But in football, the whole bedrock of sports is the uncertainty of results and for us, we are down but not out."

Asante Kotoko will take on Legon Cities FC in the next fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium.
