Asante Kotoko have pledged to provide further updates following the departure of head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum.
The club currently sits fourth in the Ghana Premier League with 47 points, six behind leaders Bibiani GoldStars, and face a crucial MTN FA Cup semi-final clash against Berekum Chelsea.
The timing of Ogum’s exit adds pressure to the Porcupine Warriors’ hopes of salvaging silverware this season.
In a statement issued on Monday, Kotoko confirmed that the coach had been relieved of his duties after “constructive discussions” between both parties. The decision, it noted, was made “with a shared understanding that it is in the best interest of the club at this time.”
Supporters were urged to remain composed during the transition, with the club saying: “We urge our supporters to remain calm and continue to support the club during this period.”
Kotoko added that “further updates will be communicated in due course,” suggesting that plans are underway to appoint a replacement.
Ogum’s dismissal follows back-to-back league losses to Accra Lions and Nations FCâresults that have derailed the club’s title challenge. Nonetheless, he leaves with credit for leading the team to the 2021/22 league title in his first stint.
