Communications Director of Asante Kotoko Kennedy Boakye Ansah has refuted claims that his outfit have finally agreed to a one-year contract extension with Sogne Yacouba.

The Burkinabe forward has been locked in contract talks with the Porcupine Warriors for some time.

His contract is due to expire in April but it appears both parties are yet to find a common ground as representatives of the player and the club have disagreed on the renewal amount.

The Kumasi-based giants communicated that they were unwilling to meet the $150,000 renewal fee being demanded by Yacouba’s representatives.

Reports went widespread on Thursday that the player has penned a one-year extension and is available for selection for their Friday’s Ghana Premier League encounter against Bechem United.

However, club’s scribe, Boakye Ansah has dismissed the report, saying his side are focused on other matters other than the renewal talks.

“It is never true Yacouba has extended his contract with Asante Kotoko neither have we agreed on any terms,it is non existent as we speak. Let’s not do anything that will pile pressure on the player and the club,” he told Kumasi FM.

“We do not want to give too much attention to Sogne Yacouba and his contract issues. We are still in talks with him for a possible renewal,he is our player and we are interested in extending his stay.”

Yacouba last played for the club in their 2-0 win against Ebusua Dwarfs on January 19.

He has been excluded from the team by head coach Maxwell Konadu who insisted on not selecting the player until his situation was resolved.
