Asante Kotoko star player Richmond Lamptey handed 30-month ban over match fixing scandal

Asante Kotoko midfielder Richmond Lamptey has been slapped with a 30-month ban by the Ghana Football Association Disciplinary Committee following his involvement in the Ashantigold SC and Inter Allies match-fixing scandal.

The 25-year-old was charged on two counts for breaching Article 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier league regulations,2019 and Article 26(1) & (2) of the GFA Code of Ethics, 2019.

Lamptey was part of the Inter Allies team that played the fixed match against Ashantigold at the Len Clay Sports Stadium last season.

"That Richmond Lamptey of Inter Allies FC is hereby banned for a period of 30 months in accordance with Article 34.5(d)(i) of the Ghana Premier League Regulations.", the verdict from the Ghana FA indicated.

The former WAFA midfielder joined Asante Kotoko from Inter Allies on a three-year deal prior to the start of the 2021/22 season.

He was one of the outstanding players in the Inter Allies squad last season scoring three goals and providing two assists in 27 matches for the club.  He also scooped four man of the match awards.

His former club, Inter Allies will be demoted to the Division Two League after being found guilty of match manipulation in their 2020/21 Ghana Premier League Matchday 34 game against Ashantigold at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.
