AshantiGold beat Liberty Professionals 2-0 at the Len Clay.

AshantiGold recorded victory in their first home game of the new season after beating Liberty Professionals 2-0 at the Len Clay Stadium on Sunday.

Striker Bernard Morrison opened the scoring from a Latif Mohammed cross in the 19th minute before new signing Francis Adjei topped it up for the Miners 10 minutes before the interval.

Neither of the two sides was able to win on the opening weekend with Bashir Hayford's men holding Heart of Lions to a 0-0 draw in Kpando while Liberty were held at the Accra Sports Stadium Wa All Stars.

George Lamptey's side look depleted and are still struggling to replenish their squad after the departure of Ghana U20 pair of Ebenezer Assifuah and Kennedy Ashia to Europe.

AshGold activity on the transfer market made them strong and they went into the game with such a vitality and Liberty were sure losers.

Hayford's confidence in Morrison received new brims as the former Heart of Lions striker opened the scoring for his host just after the quarter of an hour mark.

Midfielder Latif Mohammed's tenacity allowed him to weave through freely and found Morrison who shot well to beat the Liberty keeper.

Francis Adjei doubled the advantage before the break and both sides failed to find the net before the end of the game.
