Kuala Lumpur: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) concluded its Aspiring League Workshop in the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday.
The workshop was organised by the AFC Member Associations (MA) Development Department under the AFC League Development Programme. A total of 23 participants from Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Chinese Taipei, DPR Korea, Guam, Laos, Macau, Mongolia, Nepal, Northern Mariana Islands, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Timor Leste, including CONCACAF Head of Club Competitions Matias Tettamanti as an observer, attended the workshop.
The aim of the workshop was to help and empower the MAs to develop their own domestic leagues. Some of the topics covered were league strategic planning, club development and revenue generation along with various case studies from the quantitative and qualitative perspectives.
Guam Football Association (GFA) General Secretary Valentino San Gil said: “The workshop has been very informative, especially on the club licensing aspect.
“Being able to meet other representatives from other MAs who are more experienced in certain fields was inspiring. It was also very insightful to hear from Mandar Tamahane, JSW Bengaluru FC Chief Technical Officer, who spoke on fan engagement via social media. We aim to utilise our social media more strategically to reach and understand our fans as well.
“In the future, GFA aims to have all our clubs to be licensed, where the management and administration is handled well and efficiently. And with the help of AFC, our next objective is to have our clubs join the AFC Cup in the future.”
