Aston Villa have announced the signing of defender Anita Ama Asante in the ongoing summer transfer window.
Asante, 35, joins the Villains as a free-agent after ending her stay with English Women's Super League giants Chelsea last month.
The club's official statement reads "Aston Villa Women are delighted to announce the signing of England international Anita Asante from Chelsea."
She becomes Gemma Davies’ second signing of the summer as she reshapes her squad for their first season in the FA Women’s Super League.
Asante has amassed 71 caps for the Lionesses (female senior national team of England) and continues an illustrious career which has included spells in the USA and Sweden.
She began her career at Arsenal and has also played in the USA and Sweden, has not played since tearing her quadricep tendon in October.
