Atalanta defeated Liverpool 2-0 at Anfield to boost their hopes of qualifying for the knockout stages of the Champions League on Wednesday.

A quick-fire two goals in the second half gave the Italians a vital three points just three weeks after being handed a 5-0 loss by Jurgen Klopp's men in Italy.

The result gives Atalanta seven points from four matches, good for second place behind the Reds who remain on nine.

After a first-half stalemate, Atalanta went ahead on the hour mark through Josip Ilicic, who beat Alisson to an in-swinging Alejandro Gomez cross and poked past the Brazilian and into the net from close range.

They sealed the victory just four minutes later when Robin Gosens side-footed into a gaping net after being picked out, unmarked, by a cushioned Hans Hateboer header in the centre of the box.

Liverpool and Atalanta are next in action in the competition on Dec. 1 when they take on Ajax and FC Midtjylland, respectively.
