Atletico Madrid are set to make it difficult for any club who wants to sign star midfielder Thomas Partey this summer.

The 26-year-old has been linked with a move away from Wanda Metropolitano at the end of the season and has been linked with Arsenal and Manchester United

Arsenal though are in pole position according to reports in England. For Manchester United, they are uncertain.

Following the reports, Atletico Madrid have taken the initiative to increase Partey's buyout clause from 50 million euros to 100 million euros by offering a new two-year-deal.

In a Question and Answer session, Manchester United writer Dominic Booth believes the move is to make things difficult for clubs who want to purchase Partey.

“Thomas Partey is winning a fair few admirers around Europe for his performances for Atletico Madrid. Certainly he caught the eye as Diego Simeone’s side dumped Liverpool out of Europe in one of the last fixtures before the coronavirus-enforced suspension," he wrote.

"United have looked at Partey, along with a number of other defensive midfielders. The Ghanaian would appear to have the all-round package when it comes to the position, though his importance to Atletico has increased and he would be difficult to prise away from the Wanda Metropolitano.

If he and Atletico were open to a transfer, United should put themselves at the front of the queue - though they wouldn’t be alone."

Partey has featured in 30 games for Atleti this season.
