Atletico Madrid's Thomas Partey shows support for Black Lives Matter movement

Published on: 29 June 2020

After a number of football stars voiced their support for the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement in recent weeks, Atletico Madrid's Ghanaian international made his own individual act of solidarity this past weekend.

The midfielder unveiled a shirt under his jersey with Black Lives Matter boldly written in front after Atletic's 2-1 win over Deportivo Alaves last Saturday.

The Black Lives Matter Movement intensified this month after George Floyd, an unarmed black man, died while being pinned down by a white police officer.

The movement has been carried across by clubs and players to kick out racism.

Partey becomes the lastest Ghanaian footballer to show his support fo the movement.

Early this month, Midfielder Bernard Mensah celebrated scoring for Kayserispor against Fernabache in the Turkish league by taking a knee.

Partey has had a fine campaign with reports suggesting he will leave Atletico Madrid at the end of the season.
