Atletico Madrid's transfer plans have become idle amid coronavirus pandemic

Published on: 29 March 2020

Although the coronavirus has thrown everything into a state of uncertainty, Atletico Madrid were already working on their squad for 2020/21 before things stopped.

Andrea Berta had been making plans for the summer, with one player for each the attack, midfield and defence targeted.

After Edinson Cavani's proposed move in January fell through, Los Rojiblancos remain in the hunt for a new forward and the Uruguayan's 33 years stand against him.

Rakitic in the middle

Normal circumstances would make it hard to imagine a player joining Atletico from Barcelona, but Ivan Rakitic's future at the Camp Nou is in doubt and Atleti could offer him a way out.

Despite Thomas Partey, Koke and Saul Niguez being indisputable starters, the Croatian is aware of how promising an opportunity it could be.

As it stands, he's looking for a house in Madrid.

Salisu at the back

Salisu's impressive season for Real Valladolid has raised eyebrows and Atletico are considering activating his 12 million euro release clause.

The Ghanaian is also keen on the move and it could see Mario Hermoso moved on with the aim of recovering as much of the 25 million euros invested last summer as possible.

No rush to find Oblak's backup

Antonio Adan's contract will expire this summer, and although nobody knows what the resolution will be, the club aren't yet concerned.
