A proposed August 28 date has been set for the commencement of the GHALCA Top Four Competition.

The welfare body's flagship event has increasingly lost its relevance since the synchronization of the Premier League season to that of the Europeans.

However the competition is one major source of revenue hence GHALCA's determination to see it come off.

The competition was originally instituted to prepare the top four clubs that have qualified to play in Africa Club competitions in the previous season.

But the reduction of Ghana's Africa slot to two has further decreased the relevance of this pre-season competition.

Hearts of Oak were crowned champions in the last edition but will be unable to defend their trophy following their 6th place in the just ended league campaign.
