Australia’s Brad Smith seals Bournemouth switch

London: Australia international left-back Brad Smith has left Liverpool to sign a four-year deal with fellow English Premier League club AFC Bournemouth for an undisclosed fee.

22-year-old Smith, who appeared 10 times for Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool side last season, joins Australia team-mate Adam Federici at Bournemouth.

Smith, a dual-national, left Sydney to join Liverpool’s academy at the age of 14 and played for England at U-17, U-19 and U-20 level, before declaring his allegiance to Australia.

Since Ange Postecoglou gave him his first international cap against Belgium in 2014, Smith has become a regular Socceroos squad member, picking up nine caps and starting in Australia’s last two matches in 2018 FIFA World Cup/2019 AFC Asian Cup qualifying.

Smith made his Liverpool debut against Chelsea under Brendan Rodgers, but it was under Klopp that he became a more regular fixture in the team.

He joins a Bournemouth team aiming to extend their stay in the Premier League to a third season after a successful first season saw them consolidate their top-flight status under Eddie Howe.
