Baba Rahman ends injury nightmare by returning to action for Schalke in Bundesliga
Schalke left back Baba Rahman

On-loan Chelsea defender Baba  Rahman returned to action for the first time in over a year in Schalke’s 1-0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Ghanaian left-back was introduced in the 58 minute for Yveheniy Konoplyanka for his first game of the Bundesliga season which happened to be the last game of the season.

His inclusion and return to the game had been coming after he was named in the matchday squad for the game against his former club Augsburg last week but he could only watch from the bench as his side run out 2-1 winners on the day.

After the victory against Augsburg last week, manager Dominico Tedesco hinted that the 24-year-old could play a part as his knee had finally held up and he had shown readiness to return to the pitch.

"Baba is getting better and the stability of his knee is looking good," said Tedesco to the BBC.

"He's completing a lot of sessions."

The Ghanaian will be glad that he has been able to recover from the knee injury that threatened to curtail his career and has needed two different operations on the same knee to correct the damage.

On the game itself, Guido Burgstaller’s 11th goal of the season settled and secured all three points to ensure that Schalke finished the season on 63 points and in second place with the incentive being a return to Champions League football next season.

Baba’s fellow Ghana international Kevin Prince Boateng played the entire duration for Frankfurth in what was a frustrating afternoon for him.
