Former Ghana international Baffour Gyan has said hard work and discipline is what will end the country's trophy droughtiness.

The Black Stars have not won a major trophy since last winning the Africa Cup of Nations in 1982 in Libya.

Ghana are four-time winners of Africa's most prestigious tournament and have come close to winning it 1992, 2010 and 2015 losing all in the finals.

Gyan believes hard work by the players and discipline will see the country end the 38 years trophy drought.

"I think hard work and discipline can help win the Africa Cup of Nations," he told Asempa FM.

"We tried winning it during my playing days but we could not achieve what we were expected to achieve."

Gyan also admonished that players must be invited to the national team on a purpose and ambition.

"Players must not come to the Black Stars anyhow," he said.

"We must have the purpose of inviting them to play for the country.

"During our time, we hard senior players that we all looked up to so before they leave, we are well trained and acquainted to replace them.

"For me, once we are planning to win the AFCON, this must be taken into consideration and I believe we can win it," he added.

Gyan is the senior brother of Ghana's all-time top scorer and legend Asamoah Gyan.

The 40-year-old achieved 25 caps and scored four goals for Ghana and also represented in the 1999 FIFA U20 World Cup in Nigeria and the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece.
