Barcelona and Real Madrid chase Roma star

Barcelona and Real Madrid are set to lock horns over Roma playmaker Miralem Pjanic in the forthcoming January transfer window.

The Bosnian international has been pivotal for Rudi Garcia’s side in recent months and it now seems that the Spanish rivals will also do battle off the field in a bid to acquire the player’s in-demand services.

Despite the lucrative price tag the Roman club hierarchy have already attached to the player, Marca have confirmed that both Barca and Madrid are willing to pay the required €40 million in the New Year.

They have each been keen admirers of the player for some time now and the Lupi could prepare to be on the end an expensive bidding war come January.

Having signed from French side Lyon for €11 million in 2011, Pjanic has since gone on to make a total of 164 appearances in all competitions for Roma, scoring 27 times.

Interestingly, Roma will take on Real Madrid in the next round of the Champions League, with the first leg being played at the Stadio Olimpico on February 17.
