Barcelona have found themselves in another crisis as six board members have resigned over a fall-out with president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

Vice-presidents Emili Rousaud and Enrique Tombas, directors Silvio Elias, Maria Teixidor, Josep Pont plus secretary of the board Jordi Clasamiglia wrote a letter stating their decisions to step down from their roles, as reported by La Vanguardia.

The letter read: 'We would like to communicate that the directors signed below have informed President Bartomeu of our decision to irrevocably resign our positions at the club.

'We have reached this point and see no way to reverse the ways business is managed at the club ahead of important challanges in the future and especially post-pandemic.

'We want to stress our disappointment over the unfortunate incident with social media accounts, known as "Barcagate" in the press.

'We ask that once the current audit is carried out by PWC we want to ensure the accountability will be handed to those it corresponds to.

'Lastly, although it's the least important thing, we want to thank the directors and express our gratitude to our colleagues on the board who have dedicated their energy and strength to the good of Barcelona Football Club. We would like to thank the executives and the employees of the club for your support and excellent work during this time. It has been our pleasure to serve out beloved Barca.'

The resignations on Thursday came amid a turbulent period for the Catalan giants.

Barcelona have been feeling the financial effects of the coronavirus crisis in Spain with Lionel Messi and the rest of the Barcelona squad having taken massive pay cuts.

The club has also said it will not cover non-playing staff wages and have put them on furlough despite Bartomeu saying the club would earn £878million this season.

Star Messi Messi earns £115m a year and has been made the bad guy during the coronavirus crisis despite taking a big pay cut.

It had already emerged that Messi had donated €1m to two hospitals – one in Catalonia and one in Argentina and he then took to Instagram to fight back, he said: 'It never ceases to amaze us that from within the club there were those who tried to put us under the magnifying glass, adding pressure for us to do what we were always going to do anyway.'
