Barcelona set return date for Ansu Fati after 10 months out with injury

Barcelona are expected to include Ansu Fati in their matchday squad for their La Liga game against Levante on Sunday.

The 18-year-old suffered a meniscus injury last November just as he was hitting his stride - he prematurely finished the 2020/21 season with five goals in 10 games.

Fati returned to Barça training last month, and SPORT report that he is expected to make his return against Levante this weekend.

There was speculation that he could feature against Cadiz on Thursday, particularly after their draw with Granada in which they resorted to route one tactics, even sending Gerard Pique up front. But Barcelona are keen to protect Fati and so will not rush him back.

Fati was handed Barça's vacant number 10 shirt following the departure of Lionel Messi, and they will be relying on the youngster to help turn their fortunes around.

Barcelona have taken just eight points from their opening four games, and look devoid of many attacking ideas. They were also completely outclassed by Bayern Munich in the Champions League last week and the return of Fati will no doubt be a boost, with teenage midfielder Pedri is also closing in on a return from a muscle injury.

Ousmane Dembele and Sergio Aguero are continuing to step up their recoveries but aren't expected back for another couple of months at least, while Jordi Alba is set to return after the October international break.

Manager Ronald Koeman went on a lengthy rant at his press conference on Wednesday instead of taking questions, and Joan Laporta is looking to lure Pep Guardiola back to the club - either as a manager or sporting director.
