Barcelona B midfielder Nico Gonzalez has penned a new contract at the club until 2024, with the deal including a release clause of 500 million euros.

The 19-year-old is viewed by many inside the club as the future successor to Sergio Busquets in the deep-lying playmaker role, and he will be one of the B team players that spends pre-season with the first team this summer.

Nico plays an important role in Francesc Javier Garcia Pimienta's system with the B team, who he has played 23 games for this season and provided two assists.

Ronald Koeman has watched Nico in training on a few occasions and highlighted his impressive quality, although he is yet to call him up for any first-team matches.

There were both domestic and foreign offers on the table for Nico, but he has decided to commit his future to Barcelona, the club he has represented since he was 12 years old.

Nico is the son of former Deportivo La Coruna winger Fran Gonzalez.
