Bayern showing Sane interest

Published on: 25 May 2019

Bayern Munich have confirmed their interest in trying to tempt Germany international forward Leroy Sane to leave Manchester City and head back to the Bundesliga.

The 23-year-old has spent the last three seasons with the Citizens, scoring 39 goals in 133 appearances in all competitions, helping the club to back-to-back Premier League titles and an unprecedented domestic treble in the campaign just ended.

We will try. I cannot promise whether it will succeed.

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge

However, his starting spot was far from certain in recent months, with Sane only beginning 21 of the 38 league games played by the Citizens during the 2018/19 season.

That situation has prompted talk of a possible exit, with Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge admitting that his club had been interest in the player before he left Schalke to head to Manchester.

Rummenigge told Bild: "We will try. I cannot promise whether it will succeed.

"We already had the idea when he was still with Schalke, but at that time we did not have a guaranteed regular place for him. Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery were top of the top three years ago."

On the international stage Sane has won 19 caps for Germany, scoring three goals, two of which have come against the Netherlands.

He missed out on selection for the World Cup finals last summer, but returned to the fold after Die Mannschaft performed dismally in Russia.

Meanwhile, City are priced at 8/11 to win the Premier League title again next season, with Liverpool 11/4 and Manchester United 16/1.
