Frank Lampard has accepted that he must deliver silverware at Chelsea due to the high expectations from owner Roman Abramovich.
The 41-year-old remains the club's all-time record goal scorer following his 13-year playing career in west London, and is now targeting more trophies from the dugout.
But Lampard also hopes that, regardless of the results of his tenure at Chelsea, his reputation as a club legend is not tarnished.
After being handed the reins in the summer following his first managerial role with Derby, Lampard has steered Chelsea into the Champions League spots.
And the Romford-born tactician believes that, due to the changing nature of coaching, Abramovich's ambition means he must continue to deliver.
'The job of management has also become far more intense over the last 20 years,' Lampard said in a new book serialised by The Sun. 'Especially in the Roman Abramovich era as there are high expectations which bring high levels of pressure.
'This in turn makes for some difficult decisions for managers, who need a very strong squad of players with strong personalities.
'Having played under so many managers, I've gained a great deal of experience.
'They all gave me food for thought on approaching the job in a different way.
'I don't think a Chelsea manager 25 years ago would have needed the same qualities he needs now.'
With football suspended indefinitely due to the coronavirus crisis, Lampard will be forced to wait and see whether he will be able to clinch European football with Chelsea at the first time of asking.
The former England international is also adamant that a potential failure in the Blues' hotseat shouldn't affect his standing as a club legend.
He added: 'My objective is simple — to be as successful as it is possible to be at Chelsea.
'If I don't, then that should not influence what I achieved in 13 years as a player.'
Lampard lifted three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and three League Cups, as well as the Champions League and Europa League during his trophy-laden career at Stamford Bridge.
