Bechem United bankroller reveals rejected proposal for local Black Stars squad
Bechem United president Kingsley Owusu Achau.

Kingsley Owusu Achau, the bankroller of Bechem United, has disclosed that his proposal to develop a strong, local-based Black Stars squad was rejected by football authorities and the Sports Minister two years ago.

This revelation comes after eight players withdrew from the recent AFCON qualifiers due to injuries and personal reasons.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Achau explained that his plan aimed to foster homegrown talent by assembling 25 local players for a dedicated training camp led by the Black Stars' head coach.

This setup would allow for a balance of international and local players in the national team.

Achau's proposal suggested that when selecting players for the national team, the coach would call up 10 international players and fill the remaining spots with local talent. Unfortunately, his suggestion was dismissed.

This isn't the first time Achau has voiced concerns about Ghanaian football. Previously, he highlighted the need for specialized training for strikers and goalkeepers, citing the lack of top-quality coaches as a major issue.

Ghana is set to face Angola on November 15 and Niger on November 18, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
