Bechem United forward Augustine Okrah calls for player protection after Ganiyu's 'career ending' tackle on Avornyo

Published on: 08 November 2021

Bechem United winger, Augustine Okrah has called for the protection of players following a career ending tackle from Kotoko's Ismail Ganiyu on forward Emmanuel Avornyo.

The Kotoko center-back lunged heavily on the striker, but the referee only cautioned the defender after replays showed it was a sending off offence.

Okrah, who was unhappy with the referee's decision took to Twitter to establish his displeasure.

"Nice game today. I was elated to be back to Baba Yara Sports Stadium and thanks to the supporters for the warm reception. Congrats to Kotoko for the win. Ghanaian referees should be bold & protect players. Anyway, we will take our chances next time," hw wrote on Twitter.

Two late goals from Ismail Ganiyu and Samuel Boateng earned the Porcupine Warriors all three points on Sunday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

Ganiyu scored from the spot after teen sensation Isaac Oppong was fouled in the box.
