Benitez happy how Newcastle embraced methods

Rafa Benitez is delighted with the way his methods have been embraced at Newcastle United.

The 55-year-old Spaniard was appointed Steve McClaren’s successor little more than a fortnight ago, and he has altered a number of things since his arrival.

Asked if there had been any opposition to his new methods, Benitez responded: “No, the support from the club, from the staff, from the players, from the fans – everyone – has been fantastic.

“I think that my staff, Antonio (Gomez Perez) was with me at Liverpool, and Paco (Fabio Pecchia), but then Francisco (de Miguel Moreno) he’s from Italy and he’s come from Italian football – he played for Juventus, Napoli, Bologna – and he was my assistant in Italy and also in Madrid.

“He’s (Pecchia’s) surprised because everybody is helping here, because you are in charge of all the issues.

“So if I have to do something, I can do it.”
