Former Ghana goalkeeper Abukari Damba has hailed Benjamin Asare’s rise in the Black Stars, describing him as a determined player eager to leave a mark on the national team.

“Benjamin Asare has proven beyond doubt that he’s hungry and wants to make a mark in the Black Stars,” Damba said on Sporty FM.

The 32-year-old goalkeeper, who earned his first national team call-up following a standout season in the Ghana Premier League, has justified his selection with two consecutive clean sheets in Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.

His performances have impressed head coach Otto Addo, who now considers him the team’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Asare’s national team breakthrough comes after an outstanding club campaign, where he recorded 12 clean sheets in 19 games while conceding just eight goals.

Asare has positioned himself as a key player in Ghana’s quest for World Cup qualification following his strong start.

Black Stars now lead Group I with 15 points, ahead of Comoros (12 points) and Madagascar (10 points) with four games left in the qualifiers.
