Berekum Chelsea president, Obed Nana Kwame Nketiah has opposed the idea of players taking a pay cut amid the coronavirus outbreak.

There has been talks for Ghanaian players in the domestic scene to consider a pay cut as being done by players abroad due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic on clubs.

The suspension of the Ghana Premier League has also seen clubs struggling financially to pay salaries of players which has led to the discussion for the players to consider a pay cut in order not to plunge clubs into financial crisis.

Nana Kwame Nketiah has opposed the idea stating that Ghanaian players do not earn much and it will be inappropriate to have their wages reduced.

“The salary of the players are meager and reducing them will be a problem. So we at Chelsea are not even considering it”, he told Happy FM.

He called on government to also come to the aid of clubs as the Ghana Premier League has been suspended indefinitely.
