Champions Berekum Chelsea clawed back to deny AshantiGold an eighth-straight win with a 1-1 draw on Thursday in delayed Ghana Premier League fixture.

Alex Asamoah capitalized on a defensive blunder by Ahmed Adams to score the opener in the 24th minute mark for AshGold but Chelsea levelled through Joseph Ato-Bisah.

The points shared mean AshGold will remain in third-place on goal difference after tying on points with Hearts of Oak.

Before the game, Chelsea had picked just one point from their last two games after playing in Africa.

AshGold coach Yaw Acheampong knew victory for his side will help them overtake Hearts of Oak in second place with a two point advantage.

The home side made a bright start in the opening 20 minutes that convinced the fans of victory.

And after dominating play, they shot into the lead in the 24th minute. It was a goal Chelsea gifted returnee striker Alex Asamoah.

Ahmed Adams and Edward Kpodo created a defensive mix-up and Alex Asamoah who returned to the club after an unsuccessful stint abroad, popped up in the box to plant the ball beyond John Mossey for the opener.

Chelsea occasionally came into the picture but it was AshGold who worked to double the scoring as Aaron Amoah came close in the 35th minute.

Chelsea fought in the last minute to find the net before the first half petered out and they dully got it.

It was a spectacular strike from mid-season signing Joseph Ato-Bisah who collected a pass from Jordan Opoku a in delightful move and volleyed a left-footed effort past Fatau Dauda for the leveller.

Chelsea goalie John Mossey had to pull a world-class save to deny Didier Kore just minutes after the interval.

Striker Asamoah wasted a glorious chance to claim the maximum points for AshGold deep into the second half.

Chelsea piled some last minute pressure but they failed to find the net.
