Berekum Chelsea won't be our obssession in Africa - Kotoko coach

Asante Kotoko coach Mas-Ud Dramani insists Berekum Chelsea’s relative success in the Champions League will not be an obsession ahead of their African campaign.

The Ghana Premier League champions have been drawn against Equatorial Guinea side Sony Nguema in the first preliminary round on their return to the competition.

Kotoko’s participation in the next edition of the CAF Champions League comes just off the heels of an impressive debut campaign of Berekum Chelsea.

The Berekum-based side thrilled many with their unique brand of football on the continental stage and won many admirers despite their failure to go past the group stage.

Chelsea’s impressive performance have seen expectations heightened for Kotoko who have a much bigger pedigree in African club competitions.

But coach Dramani is quick to quash any feeling of his side’s determination to upstage The Blues as Ghana’s shining example in Africa.

“Chelsea is a different from Kotoko and therefore the expectations on both teams to perform in Africa are varied,” he told MTNFootball.com.

“Kotoko is always expected to win games no matter where and the competition they play in whereas not many people expected much from Chelsea.

“So for me, it is not a reference point. We are only interested in giving a good account of ourselves also and go as far as we can.”

Kotoko will host Nguema in Kumasi for the first leg on February 17 with the return encounter expected to be played a fortnight after.
