President of Birmingham Legion FC Jay Heaps is delighted with the capture of Ghanaian defender ahead of the upcoming American USL season.

Appiah signed a multi-year contract with the Alabama-based outfit, pending completion of a P1 visa and an International Transfer Certificate (ITC).

“This is a great addition for Legion FC, on and off the field,” said President and GM Jay Heaps. “Marcel brings vast European experience and a desire to come to Birmingham to help the team win in our inaugural season.”

Appiah becomes the second Ghaniana to join the club after former Inter Allies midfielder Prosper Kasim.

He was born to a Ghanaian father and an Italian mother in Schwelm, and his uncle is a former Italian soccer player and current German politician.

Appiah has played for clubs such as Schalke 04, Arminia Bielefeld and NEC Nijmegen.
