Black African coaches are given raw deals - Kwesi Appiah
Kwesi Appiah has been sacked as the Black Stars coach

Former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has stated that black African national team coaches are given raw deals compared to their white counterparts.

Appiah, who left his position as Black Stars coach after the expiration of his contract, is owed US$200 000, including five-month unpaid salary.

The former Al Watani gaffer has received part payment of  US$ 70,000 for his outstanding salary and bonuses.

The amount represents an accumulated two months salary out of five in addition to the winning bonus against Sao Tome and Principe in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

It is however unknown when the Sports Ministry will pay the remaining US$ 115,000 to the 2014 FIFA World Cup coach.

According to the 59-year-old, the treatment meted out to him wouldn’t have been the case had he been a white coach.

“I was owed money since August 2019 when there was no Covid-19,” Appiah told BBC Sport Africa. “Would they owe a white coach for 11 months?

“(My predecessor) Avram Grant was not owed more than a month when his contract ended. It’s not right and should not be encouraged — irrespective of whether (the coach is) local or foreign."

“I gave the GFA a three-month deadline (earlier this year), but neither the GFA nor the Sports ministry have met with me.’’
